Curiously, a majority of novices don't walk any runways, with just 24 percent given the chance (probably because of a solid predisposition for set up models). The assessment took a shot at these notable faces too, finding that a high number of preferences and remarks on posts, and sharing pictures every now and again, altogether related with number of occupations booked (for this situation, tone didn't have an impact). How South American living prepped me for the graduate world

How South American living prepared me for the alumni world This post was composed by an outer giver. Charlie Duffield considers back her time living in South America and how this arranged her for handling the difficulties graduate life Understudy life can feel like an air pocket, however in some cases the most important learning openings occur outside of the auditorium. In case you're sufficiently bold to switch your environmental factors for some certifiable activity, it can deliver profits. In spite of not considering dialects, I chose to go through ten months working in Chile affectionately alluded to as the 'Britain of South America' as a columnist and coach, before my last year moved around. Here are the top exercises I realized which coincidentally helped me explore life post-uni… Follow your interest You've completed your tests and are free finally! Until somebody corresponds in with the inescapable inquiry: 'So what are you going to do straightaway?' The strain to have an arrangement, and vocation way, as of now set up can feel massive, and definitely a portion of your friends will easily float into working life and their picked callings. On the off chance that you end up wallowing, take a full breath and make a promise to yourself to just follow your inclinations, and see where they lead you. It's alright to make child strides. In the event that you remain inquisitive, you won't stall out. Before I showed up in Chile my insight into this remote filled land was meager, however this solitary made me even more resolved to investigate every one of that was on offer and relish the experience. What might you do any other way in the event that you were an outsider in your own nation? Seek after circumstances with excitement and criticalness, and observe what starts your advantage (contrasted with what renders you out cold at your PC). This mentality will reinforce you while exploring entry level positions and employments, and at last making sense of how to stay cheerful and satisfied both all through the work environment. Counterfeit it till you make it You've heard this one preceding. Yet, these days passage level employments require immense wraps of understanding past a decent hard working attitude and enthusiasm to learn. In the event that you've at any point wound up in the conundrum circumstance of 'how might I become progressively experienced if nobody will give me experience', right off the bat you're not the only one, and furthermore it's prime chance to show your inventive attitude! You have to demonstrate well beyond that you can carry out the responsibility and hit the ground running. I made sure about a news coverage temporary position in Santiago by somewhat over-overstating my Spanish language abilities, and considerately yet steadily squeezing for a reaction post-meet. In the event that there's a particular expertise which you're inadequate with regards to, discover another road where you can create it. Hold Up For yourself, and for other people. In Santiago, fights happened routinely as a vital part of city life, so I regularly went through ends of the week running drawback roads keeping away from poisonous gas while walking with campaigners battling for sexual orientation uniformity and understudy rights. To align yourself with a reason more prominent than your own regular issue is maybe the most ideal approach to escape your head and usher in another point of view. You ought to likewise figure out how to go to bat for yourself. The force elements when work chasing can feel distorted, so it's helpful to recollect all that you bring to the table a business you're possibly taking care of an issue for them, or enhancing a crucial missing aptitudes hole. Anyway long it takes to sign that pined for work contract, don't dismiss this. Praise each miniscule achievement At last, it's extremely essential to do this to live for all to hear somewhat more, on the grounds that else you can't follow the advancement you'll be making as you trudge along. After the structure and sureness of years spent in training it can feel overpowering starting from the very beginning again at the extremely base. At the point when you're feeling demoralized, why not transport yourself (allegorically) toward the South American landmass where life misfires and shines and froths at the creases! Consider surprised chests revolving at fair or salsa artists sashaying unendingly underneath naive skies. At the point when I lived in Chile, I understood that Chileans had gone through two decades under a ruthless military tyranny; this is a nation that gets agony and enduring and partition. They likewise realize that an existence without bliss and giggling and party does not merit living. The thing is, the point at which our cerebrums have a characteristic pessimism predisposition it can eclipse the great stuff. So next time you present a request for employment, get useful input or get shortlisted for a job, have a similar outlook as a Latino and commend your advancement. Interface with Debut on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn for more vocations experiences.

Building Resilience Between Jobs

Building Resilience Between Jobs Building Resilience Between Jobs Here are two strategies to improve your propensities and your viewpoint when you need it most - when you're scanning for a job. It's not all that awful being jobless â€" not from the outset, at any rate. You get the chance to rest somewhat later, see the children off the school, play with the canine a piece, unwind and energize. How pleasant just to have the option to inhale again! But as the days transform into weeks … and months, it's not strange for the inborn anxiety of a pursuit of employment to begin wearing you out â€" intellectually, genuinely and inwardly. What's more, for some, that enthusiastic segment is the most weakening, as indicated by a December New York Times/CBS News survey of the unemployed:Nearly 50% of the grown-ups studied confessed to feeling humiliated or embarrassed more often than not or now and then because of being jobless. Maybe obviously, given the conventional picture of men as providers, men were essentially almost certain than ladies to report feelin g embarrassed the greater part of the time.In different words, regardless of whether you need to let it be known or not, it's as likely as a coin flip that you're feeling progressively powerless from being out of work. There's no disgrace in this. It just is the thing that it is. Yet, in the event that you are feeling humiliated, you likely recognize what John Bradshaw, creator of in Mending the Shame that Binds You, implied when he stated: Disgrace has a method of amplifying when we hush up about it. So on the off chance that you haven't yet, try offering your emotions to a friend or family member or somebody you profoundly trust. Doing so can be shockingly purifying and by and by validating. So what else can an official level activity searcher do to expand the chances of NOT feeling humiliated or embarrassed while jobless? What steps would you be able to take to re-stimulate your pursuit of employment, certainty and dignity?Bradshaw expresses, Our sentiments are who we are at some r andom second. Therefore, it's fundamental that we oversee them effectively. One approach to do that is by going to every one of what Bradshaw calls our six Basic Dependencies: Self-Value Needs â€" Mattering, being paid attention to, being needed for oneself and having a solid feeling of self Incitement â€" Experiencing joy, fun, energy, challenge and play Sociality â€" Mirroring, being reverberated and having/being in solid associations with others Structure â€" Having course, limits, cutoff points and consistency Security â€" Having legitimate food, dress, insurance and clinical consideration Stroking â€" Being perceived, given consideration, embraced, energized and adulated Attempt this: Every morning, rate the degree of poverty you feel in every one of the six classifications. At that point recognize a particular move you could make to help improve one of your more fragile appraisals. Try doing absolutely that at some point during the day. Go to every one of the six of your Basic Dependencies through the span of the week.Harry V. Roberts and Bernard F. Sergesketter offer another intriguing methodology with regards to their book, Quality is Personal. Their Personal Quality Checklist is a simple to-utilize structure for wiping out undesirable practices, similar to lingering, contrary reasoning or whatever obstructs you from being at your best. Stage 1 â€" Make a rundown of five or six practices/perspectives/emotions you'd prefer to smother. (I composed mine on a record card so I could convey it with me consistently. Utilizing your BlackBerry or iPhone would work similarly well.) Stage 2 â€" Throughout a given day, keep a count of how often you discover yourself doing what you're attempting to stop. Stage 3 â€" At the finish of every day, all out your counts and plan about your approach and count focuses for tomorrow. Stage 4 â€" Repeat Steps 2-3, supplanting things on your rundown as you douse them. One of the keys to progress and satisfaction in both our own and expert lives, compose Roberts and Sergesketter, is an uplifted feeling of mindfulness. The intensity of the straightforward stroke count to elevate mindfulness is uncommon. Propensities rapidly change for the better.I have by and by saw the Personal Quality Checklist as a compelling procedure. Two notes, however, in light of my own understanding: Try not to go crazy! The quantity of counts you mark during the initial hardly any days can be … faltering! This is totally common and the higher the check, the better. That is on the grounds that high beginning counts set up for sensational count decreases as you increment your emphasis on better dealing with your focused on practices/mentalities/emotions. Flip it over! While the front of my file card (Side One) followed what I needed to smother, I utilized the rear of the card (Side Two) to follow the practices/perspectives/sentiments that I needed to explicitly support thusly. Side Two gave a decent harmony among more and less. In any case, it additionally offered some brilliant proposals for what exercises could supplant the doused Side One exercises, which ended up being a pleasant amazement. A definitive cure for feeling humiliated or embarrassed while unemployed â€" and the guidance for re-stimulating your pursuit of employment, certainty and pride â€" is this: As you become progressively cognizant and deliberate about what you decide to do (and what you decide not to do) you'll begin interfacing back to that vitality and versatility you felt when at the TOP of your game.I welcome you to grasp that individual inside you â€" the individual you can be, the individual you need to be â€" the individual you genuinely are.

To Hire the Best, Companies Need to Move Beyond the Resume

To Hire the Best, Companies Need to Move Beyond the Resume To Hire the Best, Companies Need to Move Beyond the Resume A great deal of us know this as of now, and yet, people are as yet utilizing resumes â€" generally on the grounds that nobodys excessively clear on what ought to supplant them. Social media? Videos? Contests? These have been referenced as substitutes, however theyre all sort of silly and just recount to a fractional story. Rather, I recommend that organizations depend more on outsider input â€" generally, the applicants online notoriety â€" and focus on recruiting practitioners, not tellers. The Problems With Resumes In the event that your organization despite everything depends on resumes to screen individuals, youre more likely than not ignoring probably the best up-and-comers whose resumes, for reasons unknown, arent very right. Possibly they didn't place the correct watchword in. Perhaps they didnt go to the correct school or take the correct major, yet theyve still got what it takes you need. On the off chance that you depend on resumes, youre likewise making yourself defenseless against misuse by corrupt individuals who lie on their resumes â€" or just exaggerate a piece. Resumes state what a candidate can do, yet saying isnt equivalent to appearing. Moreover, saying something self-limited time is certainly not equivalent to hosting an approved third get-together â€" somebody who knows the candidates work â€" vouch for the up-and-comers abilities. Consequently, resumes are progressively immaterial, and the sooner you move past them, the better. Rather, you should concentrate on the main thing: What individuals can really do and their notorieties dependent on criticism from other people who have worked with them, especially when they are accessible on the web and depend on genuine, paid work. Assessing Candidate Reputations Heres a basic case of how online notorieties are changing employing approaches today. In the event that youre searching for a handyman, you most likely arent going to demand their C.V. Youre going to look on a site like Angies List, where you can peruse audits from real clients. Thus, if youre hoping to enlist a designer, their resume is less significant than their work history. You can see a great deal of an engineers work history on code archives like GitHub and Stack Overflow. In any case, some of the time designers do a great deal of work for individual tasks or open-source ventures, topping off their GitHub profiles with enormous volumes of work that isnt really verified (and may not be utilized by anybody). Rather, you need to perceive what sort of work theyve accomplished for paying customers or businesses and how well that work was gotten. Theres another issue with the open storehouses like GitHub and StackOverflow: They are fantastically uncalled for to individuals who cannot manage the cost of the advantage of investing a great deal of energy in unpaid side ventures. In the event that you need to work professionally, you will be unable to spend hours contributing to the Linux piece or an open-source emoticon sharing stage. Your paid work needs to justify itself with real evidence. Similarly as new businesses shouldnt invest a lot of energy consummating marketable strategies or making their sites beautiful before theyve made least practical items and discovered a few people really ready to pay for them, people shouldnt invest an excessive amount of time gussying up their work narratives. Rather, they ought to distinguish the talents and abilities they have that businesses or customers need and afterward demonstrate that they have those aptitudes in the commercial center by getting somebody to pay for it. For late school graduates, approved references and arrangement of work can help balance the well established issue of the resume with nothing on it. Truth be told, colleges could even assistance their understudies assemble arrangement of paid work by offering credit to students who undertake instructive yet commonsense tasks, get paid for them, and get positive criticism from genuine customers. Rather than a temporary position of questionable quality, consider the possibility that a hopeful programming engineer went through 100 hours accomplishing paid coding work and got genuine, significant input on it. Proposals matter, especially on the off chance that they originate from individuals you know. Some informal communities can do this: Yelp, for example, features eatery surveys from individuals youre associated with, which are much more important than audits from irregular outsiders who, for all you know, never at any point visited the cafés theyre checking on. So also, LinkedIns proficient expertise supports convey little weight. Its not exceptionally significant when somebody sees a mechanized recommendation and snaps a catch to embrace an individual for an irregular aptitude. The way that an up-and-comer has 57 supports on LinkedIn for a specific ability from individuals you dont know is quite near useless. Be that as it may, a composed proposal on LinkedIn from somebody you know and trust is staggeringly important, on the grounds that it originates from a genuine individual who set aside the time to compose a couple of words for an applicant. Meetings Need to Go, Too Once youve gone past the screening stage, theres another piece of the employing procedure Id like to eliminate: The meeting. Like resumes, interviews favor applicants who are acceptable at recounting to their own accounts. On the off chance that you request that up-and-comers depict a test they confronted and how they tackled the issue, youll likely end up employing the individuals who tell the best stories. As far as I can tell, that doesnt consistently correspond with accomplishing great work. Rather, give the most encouraging individuals a genuine task and perceive how they do when theyre performing genuine labor for 60 minutes, a day, seven days, or a month. You can pay them for the test venture, particularly in the event that it requires any critical measure of time. Theres no better method to see whether somebody is a solid match for your association than by giving them something to do and requesting that they contribute. To put it plainly, its chance to quit employing individuals dependent on what they state they can do. You ought to employ practitioners, not tellers. Moving past the resume is a basic initial phase in doing so.Master the craft of shutting arrangements and making positions. Take our Recruiter Certification Program today. We're SHRM guaranteed. At the point when I asked my Meet Up who might join in, loads of individuals lifted their hands, two individuals offered to support it, and others needed to be speakers. That level of intrigue demonstrated me that even individuals I viewed as on the front line of deals tech and deals process felt they required more assistance. So I set out to associate the smash hits on the planet with the individuals who need to gain from them.Follow Ladders on Flipboard!Follow Ladders' magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and more!Max AltschulerWhat reason does it serve and how has it evolved?Sales Hacker exists to raise the business calling and help present day B2B sales reps be better merchants and deals pioneers. That has been our strategic day 1.But we have certainly developed after some time. For instance, we used to run a great deal of physical occasions and had Meet Ups everywhere throughout the world. Presently, we convey our preparation content as free online classes two times per week and have developed our blog to 125k endorsers. Going advanced has helped u s contact more individuals who need guidance or tips. What innovation/development/stage has had the most significant impact on the field of deals in the previous hardly any years, and why?Well, I'm one-sided yet I trust it must be Outreach. The enormous change confronting all dealers right presently is that purchasers have more force and information than any other time in recent memory. We used to discuss customizing effort as an approach to stick out, and that is insufficient any longer. We used to discuss social selling, however now the best approach to consider it is classified omni-channel selling and we see apparatuses for sales reps that help them be the place their purchaser is, at scale. Make the entirety of your reps do the activities that your best reps do, consequently, giving you proficient and unsurprising revenue. What are the greatest difficulties, from a specialized as well as business angle, that those in deals face these days (can integrate with the past question)?I think many individuals despite everything battle with finding the correct harmony among viability and productivity, personation or significance and scale. We have a great deal of new instruments available that do both, and discovering approaches to enable those apparatuses to cooperate can be complicated.Big picture, do you feel the universes of deals and advertising are meeting, and assuming this is the case, is this something worth being thankful for? Or then again would it be advisable for them to remain their own unmistakable fields? If it's not too much trouble explain. They're joining, yet I think we'll generally have differentiations. It shouldn't simply feel adjusted. It should feel integrated. What are the key advances that sales reps should take with regards to cold pitching/emailing?Especially for the individuals who are simply beginning with another item, or new crowd persona, adhere to the content. Cold effort achievement in the long haul relies upon your capacity to sett le on savvy choices dependent on information. On the off chance that you don't keep a few things reliable, you won't have great information with which to make those decisions.Learn the most well-known protests your associates get and shadow their calls to hear how they handle them. Take notes and set up your best reactions for when you get the equivalent objections.Prepare great, open-finished inquiries, and practice your entire content, with questions. Practice with anyone you can, so when you get a possibility on the telephone, you're not rehearsing, you're a pro. What should they avoid?Don't burn through your or a possibility's time on the off chance that you don't figure you can really assist them with taking care of an issue. Concentrate on connecting just to those possibilities for whom your answer could make a major impact. What guidance do you have for Millennials hoping to make a profession move into sales?First, deals is an extraordinary career! If you need to begin a vocatio n in deals, be set up for heaps of dismissal. Regardless of whether you start as a Sales Development Representative or make a plunge as an Account Executive, you'll face a ton of no's. And that begins during the pursuit of employment, so structure an arrangement for development and treat your future boss like a record you'd prefer to sell. Connect with various contacts, and examination the organization as well. You've fabricated a profession on discovering efficiencies in everything from new companies to enormous associations. Do you adopt an alternate strategy to each or is there a comparative system you utilize? Kindly explain.I'm a major aficionado of robotization. I figure individuals ought to invest their energy doing things no one but individuals can do. That implies, inventive reasoning, examination, complex critical thinking, correspondence, etc.I attempt to take a gander at associations as though they're frameworks and believe, Are there different frameworks (or individuals) out there that can do portions of this for us? The objective isn't to diminish headcount, however to assist individuals with concentrating on the things they're great at, that include the most value.Asking that question is a certain something, however. Finishing on it and being thorough about what sorts of work groups do is the thing that takes discipline. What has been the most fulfilling snapshot of your profession/proudest vocation accomplishment, and why?Getting Sales Hacker procured by Outreach and joining the Outreach group, undoubtedly. My very own strategic still to assist dealers with being better at what they do, and Outreach has demonstrated they're on that equivalent track. Perceiving how they've put resources into Sales Hacker to help make that considerably increasingly potential has been so satisfying.

In Life and Job Search, Preparation is Key

In Life and Job Search, Preparation is Key Ive been following the tales on the chivalrous pilot, C.B. Sulley Sullenberger and the mind blowing landing of U.S. Aviation routes Flight 1549 which was dumped essentially in the terrace of the Career Solvers workplaces in midtown Manhattan. A few of the reports notice Sullenbergers veteran status as a pilot and one correspondent remarked that Sullenberger has gathered 19,000 hours of flight time over his vocation. This reality reminded me of Malcolm Gladwells latest book, Outliers, where he remarks that a significant number of the best individuals on the planet have gotten to where they are today, in any event to some extent, by gathering 10,000 hours or a greater amount of understanding and that experience, combined with solid relational abilities and karma are generally contributing elements to progress. Sullenbergers execution today surely qualifies him as an Outlier in my book. He was talented enough to realize how to deal with a crisis, he effectively conveyed the circumstance to the group and travelers, and he was fortunate enough to be on a runway that made the arrival in the Hudson River conceivable. So what does this have to do with pursuit of employment? All things considered, many individuals believe that a few people are conceived interviewers.great social butterflies who can talk their way into any activity. Yet, I dont see it that path by any stretch of the imagination. The extraordinary questioners are the ones who practice their meeting methodology and sharpen their relational abilities. Karma plays a section in finding an occupation, yet every now and again the karma wont happen except if you have invested the training effort. And keeping in mind that Im not proposing that an occupation searcher needs to place in 10,000 hours of meeting practice to get an occupation, I am suggesting that activity searchers pay attention to talk with training. Here are a couple of approaches to be more ready for your next interview. Write out your activity rel ated examples of overcoming adversity. Specialty your accounts utilizing the CAR procedure. Consider the Challenges you looked at work, the Actions you took to address those difficulties, and the relating Results.Review your CAR stories and search for the topics inside these accounts. For instance, do your achievements rotate around your capacity to make and lead solid groups, improve a procedure, set aside cash, or pivot in danger operations.Review inquiries questions and attempt to coordinate your accounts of progress to various inquiries questions. This procedure empowers you to connect your topics and verification of progress to the inquiries you might be posed and make an all the more convincing case for your worth include when you are before recruiting managers.Conduct a recorded counterfeit meeting with a confided in companion, associate, or profession mentor. The greatest advantage of the taped pretend exercise is that it permits you to survey what you said and settle on cho ices on where your answers need altering and polishing. The well-known adage, careful discipline brings about promising results might be a piece buzzword, however throughout everyday life and quest for new employment it is regularly obvious.

When I started JibberJobber I started to do a different kind of networking not as a job seeker, but as an aspiring mega-success. I found, as I networked in that capacity, I had people say what can I do to help you? I really didnt know how to respond to that. I had to figure out a good response that could help people help me. It was uncomfortable at first, but eventually I got used to asking for help, especially when people ASKED how they could help. Weird, huh? So today, Im ASKING you a favor I have been negligent in ASKING for testimonials for JibberJobber.  Many years ago I had asked, but its been a long time.  I have more users now, and the system has advanced quite a bit, and its time that I ASK you to give me testimonials and endorsements I can use in my marketing. Note: Im not ASKING for feedback or things to improve (you can send those to us through the Contact Us form).  Im ASKING for the kudos the good stuff. So please, leave a comment below with a testimonial. If you love it, if you use it, if you need it, if you think its brilliant, if it has made a difference in your career management and job search, please share this with the world, and help me establish more credibility for JibberJobber If you want to leave any personal information, like what industry you are in, what title you typically have, or how you use JibberJobber, please do that (for example, as a non-job seeker, etc.) THANK YOU ASK! When Writing a Resume, It is More Important to Focus on What You Have Than to Focus on What You Dont Have

When Writing a Resume, It is More Important to Focus on What You Have Than to Focus on What You Don't HaveWhen writing a resume, it is more important to focus on what your expertise is. This means you have to focus on the skills that you have and put them in bold letters. You have to also highlight these skills in a way that shows that you are the best at what you do.For example, if you are an accountant, your resume can talk about your expertise as an accountant. You can focus on your major skill - being an accountant. This may include how you earned your accounting degree. By doing this, you show that you are the best person for the job.Other people might prefer to focus on what they do better than an accountant does. You might focus on the skills you have when it comes to marketing or your marketing skills. This might include how you can get more clients for a client when it comes to doing sales. You should also be careful to include a paragraph in your resume about why you want th e job. This will help you attract a potential employer to want to contact you so that you can fill a position. Make sure you highlight the area where you are the best and make the most money.Focus on the skills you possess to have an advantage over other people applying for the same position. As you can see, this will give you an edge over people who don't know what they are doing. This means that you will be able to grab the job.You can also focus on how others may not think you are the best. They may assume that you are the best because of your experience. So make sure that you demonstrate that you can do the job.Make sure you include the skills you use when you are applying for the job. If you have a knack for sales, you need to include that in your resume. If you have good communication skills, you need to include those as well. These will help you stand out from other applicants who don't have the same skills. Finally, focus on the qualities that will get you the job. The only w ay you can do this is by highlighting the skills you have that will be a benefit to the company. Most employers will not hire a person who doesn't have those qualities. You can use those skills to get the job and show the company that you are the best candidate for the job.

These balance sheets can be quite large in size and need a significant amount of time required to manage them. That is where a bookkeeper comes in. They help to ensure the auditing of the balance sheet is happening on a regular basis. Bookkeeper Interview Questions & Answers 1. If you pay an employee, what is that considered? That is considered an expense on the company, which is a debit on the balance sheet. Of course, there are other expenses related to having the employee on staff, like their benefits program and much more. 2. What is employment tax? Employment tax is the tax that we pay to have someone on staff. This is usually filed on a federal and state level on behalf of the company that the person is employed with. 3. How often should you file federal taxes? Federal taxes should be filed twice per year if you want to be extremely accurate. Though most people file them once per year, though this means you will pay a penalty and that is a way that we can save some additional costs on the business itself. 4. What is a debit and credit? A debit is when we are deducting from our available balance and a credit is when we are adding to our available balance. So for example, a debit is when we owe money or paid money. And a credit is when we are given money or earn money. 5. What software would you use for bookkeeping? Microsoft Excel is the best tool for advanced bookkeeping. It allows us to have complicated data formula’s and significant amounts of rows and columns for our general bookkeeping that other software cannot do. LinkedIn Profile Photo 4 Ways to Find a Great Photographer

LinkedIn Profile Photo â€" 4 Ways to Find a Great Photographer Hiring a professional photographer for your LinkedIn profile photo can be confusing.A few weeks ago, I crowdsourced ideas on how to find a good headshot photographer on LinkedIn and want to share the high-quality suggestions that I received here. Were visual creatures, so your LinkedIn profile picture makes up a critical part of your personal brand. When someone views your profile on LinkedIn and on social networking sites, they look at your photo first. Thus, it makes sense to hire a pro to get the best shot possible.Check out these four ideas from career experts and LinkedIn users:1. Ask Local ColleaguesI would look at the LinkedIn pictures of local colleagues, find one I liked, and ask who their photographer was.Donna Schilder, Executive CoachI love a good referral!2. HeadshotCrew.comHeadshotCrew.com. All of them have been trained by Peter Hurley who is the most well-known headshot photographer.Wendi Weiner, Career Branding ExpertI like Wendis idea because it shows you that the photographer has had quality training and is a member of a professional community. Thus, they continue to learn and improve their product.3. Ask Real Estate Brokers in Your AreaI often recommend contacting a real estate brokerage in your area, as they typically require headshots on every realtor business card and therefore have a good network of (reasonably priced) local headshot photographers.Laura Smith-Proulx, Executive Resume WriterThis would be especially useful in small towns where the two ideas above might not work.4. The Budget SolutionI randomly met a woman who was an amateur photographer. She was practicing her craft and we were able to do my headshots for a low price. My pics turned out great, she was able to add them to her portfolio, and I was able to recommend other people to her. There may be a photography student in your area that just needs to practice and will cut you a deal.Stacey Stringfellow, Banking ExecutiveVetting PhotographersOnce you have a prospect or a list, be sure to check the photographers:Portfoli o.Pricing.Availability.Proof turnaround time.Approach to ensuring your satisfaction.Note: Be leery of using five-star review sites for vetting purposes. Theyre way too easy to game.If all of that works, read the following tips and you will be ready to go!3 Tips for Your LinkedIn Profile PhotoUse this standard pose and smile that tests best on Photofeeler.com.Add this jawline trick from (none other than) Peter Hurley.Wear formal business clothing. It tests best on Photofeeler.com.Polish your profiles look by wearing a color in your photo that you echo in your background image.2 Small Image Tips for Your PhotographerRemind your photographer that this will be a small image on a big page. Because of that, faces get lost:If there is inadequate contrast to clearly distinguish your hair from the photographers background. Fix this at the shoot, not later. In waist-high and standing shots. So make this a headshot, from the top of your shoulders up.3 Technical Tips for Your Photographer400 x 4 00-pixel image sizes work well.LinkedIn limits your uploadable file size to 8MB.LinkedIn limits you to PNG and JPG file types.Uploading Your Photo to LinkedInThis has gotten easier over the years. Thus, Im not going to go into the details here. If you want directions, LinkedIn offers step-by-step help that will have your lovely face up and out to the world in seconds.Let’s Connect on LinkedInPlease don’t hesitate to invite me to connect on LinkedInhere:Donna Svei, Executive Resume Writer. How To Improve Your Career Path as a Graphic Designer - CareerEnlightenment.com

How To Improve Your Career Path as a Graphic Designer Graphic designers can enjoy rewarding, engaging careers that fulfill their creative urges while still letting them pay the bills. That’s not to say that attractive opportunities for professionals in this space are easy to come by; you still need to make careful decisions if you want to get ahead. If you’re a graphic designer who feels like you are stagnating in your current role, here are a few tips to follow to give your career the boost it needs right now as well as improving its trajectory in the long term.Refine your focusA graphic designer can be a jack of all trades, dabbling in various aspects of design from day-to-day. This is fine for some, but if you are sick of being sporadically deployed to different projects and feel like you’re spread too thinly to really let your talents shine, opting to take on a more focused role could help. For example, you might consider becoming a motion graphic designer, capitalizing on the demand for this skill at the moment and also specializing in an area that will only become more relevant in this highly competitive segment of the job market.Go freelanceThis is not an option for everyone, but even if you do not want to take the plunge and become a freelance designer rather than working for one agency, there are still opportunities for expanding your portfolio as well as your career options if you take on some freelance work.Finding clients as a freelancer has never been easier and it is a great way to run a business from your home, escaping the office politics and distractions that can really be vexing. If you develop a following on social media, many clients will end up coming to you, and you could even promote yourself as an environmental graphic designer on social media.   Want to Read More Articles Like This One?Sign up here to receive weekly updates from Career Enlightenment, and never miss another powerful job searching tip! Develop different skillsOne of the key reasons that a graphic designer’s career can hit a plateau too soon is if they stop acquiring new skills and are instead limited to doing the same old things over and over again, missing out on job opportunities and promotions as a result.Training is the best way to overcome this, and there are myriad means of learning new things and expanding your skillset in a way that will make you more valuable to employers. In some cases, your existing firm may offer to pay for training, or you could make use of free online resources to achieve this. Perhaps you may want to dig into web design, motion design or video making. All of those are in high demand right now.Become an educatorThis is an alternative to pursuing an extended career as a graphic designer, but one which many people find rewarding. If you have a solid background in education under your belt, including a postgraduate degree, then taking up the art of teaching others graphic design could be a good move. There are plenty of different ways to go about this, as well as a variety of approaches to education that you might want to adopt. From dealing solely with the nuts and bolts of graphic design to espousing on the theories which define the practice, the world is your oyster. This is also an area of rapid growth, with plenty of demand for academics dealing in a variety of subjects. Add to that the fact that remuneration for teaching at a postsecondary level can be higher than you might earn as a graphic designer in the first place and the reasons to make the switch become even more compelling.

Four Interview Tips for Sarah Palin

Four Interview Tips for Sarah Palin You could say that Sarah Palin had a bad interview experience last week when she visited Boston and was asked about Paul Reveres famous ride. Here are four interview tips for Palin and anyone else trying to perform better during an interview.Research the company you are meeting with before the interview. You can find company information on LinkedIn, TheVault, Hoovers, Glassdoor, and AnnualReports.com. Most employers want to know that you are serious enough about them to have spent some time learning about them before the interview. Perhaps if Sarah Palin had looked at the website for the Old North Church where she was visiting she would have nailed the Paul Revere question.Theres no such thing as a gotcha question. You can do well on interviews if you are prepared. Review your accomplishments and try to match your accomplishments to the needs of the company. Even brain teaser questions are not designed to trick you, but rather to help employers understand how you think and solve prob lems. There really arent any trick interview or gotcha questions as Palin suggestJust unprepared interviewees.Dont make stuff up. If you dont know something or dont have an example of something  related to an employers question dont make it up. Focus on how you would handle a particular situation if you were to encounter it. Palins responses contained inaccuracies and comments not based on fact.  And just as her inaccuracies were easy to verify, yours may be easy to verify as well.If you flub an interview question move on. If something doesnt go well during the interview, let if go and move on. Rebound by showcasing examples of your strengths and send a follow up thank you letter reminding the employer why you are a great match for the job and letting them know you continue to be interested. Dont focus on the negatives. Palin decided to appear on FOX to explain her responses. Im not convinced that won her any interview points.
